Superovulation/Intrauterine Insemination is designed to increase your chance of getting pregnant.  The goal is to increase the number of eggs and sperm in the fallopian tube at the proper time.  This is accomplished by:

  • Medication to stimulate extra egg production and trigger ovulation.  You will be given a prescription to cover your entire cycle.  Depending on your body’s response to the medication, you may not need all of the medication, or you may need to purchase an additional small amount to complete your cycle.  If you are using injectable medications, we advise you to view the online injection training videos prior to your first visit.  Questions can be answered at your first visit and the techniques explained and demonstrated.
  • Intrauterine Insemination (known as IUI)  bypasses the cervix, thereby increasing the number of sperm that reaches the egg(s) in the fallopian tube.  In this procedure, specially prepared and enhanced sperm is deposited through a catheter (a small flexible tube) directly into the uterus.

A patient would likely undergo 3-6 treatment cycles (depending on their circumstances) before trying procedures such as in vitro fertilization.
